What unlocking a PDF means
Unlocking a PDF removes the password that keeps a file closed. The document was saved with encryption, and once you supply the correct password the tool builds a fresh copy with the password stripped away. The new file opens like any normal PDF — no prompts, no restrictions. Every page, all the text and every image come through exactly as they were; the only difference is that the lock is gone.
When unlocking is the right tool
Locked PDFs arrive with the password in a separate message, or you set one years ago and now wish you hadn’t.
